Hi, I'm Matthew,
I am a photographer based in Southern California. For me the beauty of photography is about freezing a moment in time, turning a timeless memory into something real. Memories that live in our mind can fade or change, a photo can turn a feeling, moment, or experience into something visible and permanent.
My Story
I was never the one to stand in front of a camera to have my photo taken, I always felt uncomfortable, so I find it kind of ironic I'm now behind the camera as a photographer. I was 20 years old when I bought my first camera. I didn't know anything about cameras or photography, but something had peaked my interest. I was just beginning to travel and I thought I'd pick up a camera to document my experiences. I would've never thought the journey it would take me on.
I started taking photos of family and friends, then taking my camera with me when I traveled. Like most of my hobbies I am self taught. The more I took photos the more fascinated I became with this new piece of technology I had in my hands. The thing that surprised me the most was the amount of detail a camera could capture in a photo. Photography was a hobby that quickly turned into an obsession.
As I look back at my photography experience, I can reflect on what it is I love most about taking pictures. The most important thing in life is time. Time is something that always moving forward, something that you can never get back. So, when I take a photo I'm freezing a moment in time- preserving someone's expression, a location's atmosphere, or an objects detail exactly as it exists in that instant. A photograph turns that memory into something you can see, hold, and revisit- even years later. My photography is about preserving those meaningful moments so they don't disappear- transforming fleeting experiences into timeless memories.
